Thickness Variations
PTFE sheets are thicker than films but thinner than plate, they are available in various thicknesses to suit different applications.
Thin sheets: PTFE sheets in the range of 0.005 to 0.030 inch (0.13 to 0.76 mm) thickness are commonly available. These sheets are suitable for gaskets, seals, and lining applications where moderate thickness and flexibility are required.
Medium sheets: PTFE sheets with thicknesses between 0.030 and 0.125 inch (0.76 and 3.18 mm) are considered medium thickness. These sheets offer good strength, stability, and resistance to chemicals, making them suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.
Thick sheets: PTFE sheets with thicknesses ranging from 0.125 to 0.500 inch (3.18 to 12.7 mm) are considered thick sheets. These thicker sheets provide enhanced mechanical strength and are commonly used in applications that require greater load-bearing capabilities or where machining is required.
Production Methods
When it comes to PTFE sheets, there are two common manufacturing methods: molded and skived. Molded sheets are better when higher mechanical strength and stability are necessary, while skived sheets are more cost-effective and suitable for applications that demand flexibility, smooth surface finish, or larger dimensions.
PTFE Molded Sheet
Molded sheets are manufactured by compressing PTFE resin powder at high pressures and sintering it to form a solid sheet. They have higher tensile strength and impact resistance than skived sheets. But they are available in a limited range of thicknesses and dimensions, and are more expensive due to the additional manufacturing process involved.
PTFE Skived Sheet
Skived sheets are made by skiving a block of PTFE resin using a cutting tool. This process produces thinner sheets with a smooth surface finish. They offer a wider range of thicknesses, starting from very thin film up to thicker plates. Skived PTFE sheets have lower tensile strength and impact resistance compared to molded sheets.
Filled PTFE Sheet
The addition of fillers to PTFE sheets will improve certain characteristics and reduce cost. Some common fillers include glass fibers, carbon fibers, bronze, and other materials.
Glass Filled PTFE Sheet
The glass fibers are added in percentages by weight, ranging from 5% to 40%. Glass fibers enhance mechanical strength, dimensional stability, and wear resistance. Glass filled PTFE sheets are commonly used in applications where high strength, low wear, and dimensional stability are required.
Carbon Filled PTFE Sheet
The carbon filler takes various forms, such as carbon powder, carbon fiber, or graphite. The addition of carbon enhances the material's electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and wear resistance, making it suitable for static control, EMI/RFI shielding, electrical grounding and heat exchanger applications.
Bronze Filled PTFE Sheet
The presence of bronze particles improves wear resistance and heat dissipation of PTFE sheets. The percentage of bronze powder typically ranges from 40% to 60%. Bronze filled PTFE sheets are commonly used in applications where heat dissipation is important, such as piston rings, bushings, and valve seats.

FAQs of PTFE Sheet
Are there different grades of PTFE sheets you can supply?
Yes, there are different grades of PTFE sheets available for us, including filled PTFE sheets (reinforced with materials like glass, carbon or bronze fibers), expanded PTFE sheets (used for gaskets and seals), and virgin PTFE sheets (standard sheets with pure PTFE).
Can you provide different thickness options for PTFE sheets?
Yes, our PTFE sheets come in various thicknesses, ranging from thin films (0.13 – 0.76 mm) to medium (0.76 – 3.18 mm) and thicker (3.18 – 12.7 mm) sheets.
What's the difference between your PTFE skived sheets and PTFE molded sheets?
Our PTFE skived sheets are sliced from PTFE boards or blocks, offering flexibility and a smoother surface finish. In contrast, PTFE molded sheets are compressed and sintered for mechanical strength and stability.
Do you have stock samples? And how to get it?
Yes, we have a large inventory of different size of PTFE sheets in our warehouse, free sample orders are available for quality check, and the lead time is 5-7 days.
